Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at Louise@therapywithlouise.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

You can contact me on my email or through the website to book an appointment. The first step is booking an initial appointment which is usually online.

Yes, I offer a 10 mins free consultation for you to ask any questions about the therapy process before deciding if you would like to book an initial appointment. This is usually completed on the phone.

An initial appointment usually lasts 45-50 mins. It is an opportunity for me to understand what the issues are that bring you to therapy and what your goals for the sessions are. It is also an opportunity for you to decide if I am the correct therapist for you.

Yes, you can attend relationships counselling, family counselling and sex therapy on your own or with a partner or family. Please note if you are attending sex therapy on your own but are in a relationship, I will not be setting any couple work for you without seeing your partner.

I will send you an invoice for the appointment and payment needs to be made 48 hours before your appointment time.

This is individual to the client. This can be discussed at the initial appointment. If you only have funds/time for a certain number of sessions, please let me know as it may impact the way we work.

To begin with you book an initial appointment, at this appointment you will share what the problems are and what your goals are. If sex therapy is the right service for you, we will then continue into the history taking phase. This is usually 2-3 session each (completed individually) to take a detailed account of previous relationships, learnings around sex and relationships. Once the history take is complete, I will create a formulation and create a treatment plan, ongoing sessions then commence and the treatment plan is amended depending on how you progress and the feedback you give.

Yes, for relationship counselling I will see you both together for the initial appointment. If you then decide you would like to proceed with ongoing appointments, I will request to see you for an individual appointment. This individual appointment is normal practice and allows me to understand the relationship from your perspective. You will then resume joint sessions, unless you or I think you may benefit for another individual appointment at some point.

For family therapy, it is normally practice for me to see family members in different dynamics, as well as on their own.

For sex therapy there is more of a structured approach.

This depends on if the abusive partner can take responsibility for their behaviour and has a willingness to change.

I have a therapy room at Synegis House, Crockhamwell Road, Woodley. Once an appointment has been made, you will be sent information on the venue.
